Gossage and Skipper grab the Gauntlet at Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon

Half-iron distance race won by Ironman Lanzarote title-holder Lucy Gossage and former British middle-distance champ Joe Skipper

The fifth Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon attracted a strong elite pool to Cheshire last weekend (Sunday 29 June), along with 1,300 competitors including children and novices.

This year's Ironman Lanzarote winner Lucy Gossage conquered the half-iron distance Gauntlet with a time of 4:34:58 – giving her a 14min lead over second-placed Eleanor Hareseign, with Emma Wright taking bronze. The men’s Gauntlet was won by former British middle-distance champion Joe Skipper, who crossed the line in 4:13:09, followed by Joel Jameson and Matt Leeman.

In the Olympic distance races, newcomer India Lee pipped Catherine Jameson to first place, with Nicole Walters joining them on the podium. Israman 2014 winner Alice Hector was forced to pull out with ligament trouble. Mark Threlfall won the men’s Olympic race with a time of 2:03:55, with Elliott Smales and Dan Bingham taking second and third respectively.
