The UK's top off-road triathletes are heading out to Hawaii this weekend to take part in the Xterra World Championships, including 10 age-groupers who competed at Xterra England last month.
The event takes place on the island of Maui and sees around 800 competitors cover a 1.5km rough sea swim, a 30km off-road bike and a 10km mountain run. Last year's event was won by 2013 ITU World Champion Javier Gomez and Britain's Lesley Paterson.
British age-groupers heading out this year include Emily Iredale, 32, from Midhurst, West Sussex, who said: "It’s going to be an amazing experience, not only to compete with the world's best off-road triathletes but to swim in the ocean, ride some amazing trails and finish with a spectacular run will be an unforgettable experience."
The qualifying spots were awarded to those who came first or second in their age-group at the Xterra England event in Cranleigh, Surrey last month. Pro athletes Ben Allen (AUS) and Jacqui Slack (GBR) won the overall event, and are among the favourites tipped to win in Hawaii.
