The UM1214a has aimed itself squarely at those of us who really hate the cold, and feels like one of the warmest tops around.

Our microscopic scrutiny supported this tactile feedback, showing a high-density make-up for the fabric that locks the warmth against your skin. The added features – a turtle neck and thumb holes in the sleeve – also help to protect on even the frostiest of mornings.

This positive insulation can be attributed to the Tactel (nylon) composition, which also provides good comfort and moisture management. On long winter rides, we truly appreciated this quality fabric.

We also enjoyed its benefits when running, the garment displaying flexibility when our upper bodies were working. However, the mercury rose just a touch too much when out on fartleks or interval sessions.

2XU have also really thought through the seam placement, too, so that when the garment is under any kind of tension, no irritation occurs. All in all, a good all-rounder.
