One yet-to-be-announced European city is to host the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, with the winner to be revealed early next year.

The four cities which are in contention all host Ironman races already:

- Haugesund (Norway), which hosted Ironman 70.3 races in 2012 and 2013
- Region Mosell (Luxembourg), which held its first 70.3 race this year
- Nice (France), which has been hosting a full-distance Ironman race for over 10 years
- and Zell am See-Kaprun (Austria), which held its second 70.3 race last August

Ironman CEO Andrew Messick said all four provide "scenic and challenging" courses suited for a World Championship event. The criteria for the winning city is not being publicly disclosed.

More than 2,500 athletes are expected to qualify for the 2014 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, being held in Quebec next September, and each age-group winner will automatically qualify for the 2015 championship.
