Rapha Pro Team Softshell bike jacket review

Rapha’s Classic Softshell is a superb bit of kit and one that combines aesthetics with function to provide something you can wear on or off the bike. The new Pro Team Softshell is a different proposition.

It’s designed with performance in mind and, as such, is less comfortable off the bike than its sibling. The idea behind the jacket is that it’s for training in foul weather, as the little touches like internally-taped seams to keep out the water attest.

Rapha say they spent hundreds of hours developing and testing the fabric, and they’ve certainly done an excellent job because the jacket is a definite winner when it comes to keeping both wind and rain out.

The micro holes strategically placed under the arms really help with temperature regulation and are appreciated, especially if you’re pairing the jacket with a baselayer and jersey on very cold days. For our guide to 2014's best bike jackets head here.

Verdict: Technical jacket that thrives in the worst of conditions, 85%
