The International Paralympic Committee has revealed the final three paratriathlon medal events for Rio 2016, where the sport will make its Olympic debut.

The final men’s medal event will be filled by the PT2 sport class, while PT2 and PT5 will complete the medal events for the women. After July’s announcement of the first three medal events, this brings the total tally up to six:

Men’s paratriathlon medal events:

- PT1 (wheelchair users)

- PT2 (athletes with comparable activity limitation and an impairment of, but not limited to, limb deficiency, hypertonia, ataxia and or athetosis, impaired muscle power or range of movement)

- PT4 (as above, with less severe impairment)

Women’s paratriathlon medal events:

- PT2 (athletes with comparable activity limitation and an impairment of, but not limited to, limb deficiency, hypertonia, ataxia and or athetosis, impaired muscle power or range of movement)

- PT4 (as above, with less severe impairment)

- PT5 (athletes with a visual impairment)

Marisol Casado, president of the International Triathlon Union, plans to keep campaigning for the inclusion of all remaining sport classes in Tokyo 2020, as well as develop them at ITU paratriathlon events.

"ITU will continue to offer top quality competitive races in all of its sport classes, including World Championships every year, as well as development and classification opportunities,” she added.
