If you're looking for a race to warm you up for the 2014 season then this might fit the bill: a new half marathon and 10k set in the grounds of a Leicestershire stately home next March.

Comprising one lap of Stanford Hall's gardens and nearby country lanes, the event will take place on 23 March, with entry costing £23 for the half marathon and £17 for the 10k.

Nick Fothergill, ancestor of the home's original owner Sir Roger Cave, said: "We are really honoured to be hosting the Stanford Hall Half Marathon next year.

"I enjoy running myself, and train regularly over these very roads. The grounds offer a superb training environment and are a great opportunity to see the best of the English countryside."

The race will be fully chip timed and there will be prizes for the top three (male and female) overall as well as in the 40+, 50+ and 60+ categories.
