Belgium's Frederik Van Lierde will be racing the long course at the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon next March, where Britain's Brownlee brothers will compete in the short course.

The 2013 Ironman World Champion will be looking to repeat his victories in 2011 and 2013 on the long-distance course, which involves a 3km swim, 200km cycle and 20km run.

“Abu Dhabi holds a special place in my heart as the event was the springboard for me to go on and become World Champion," said Van Lierde.

"The event is never easy, as the elite field is always so strong, but I know that a win in Abu Dhabi can push me to new heights, so I will be fully prepared for the event on March 15th.”

British triathletes Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee confirmed last month that they will be racing the short course against each other, which will involve a 1.5km swim, 100km cycle and 10km run.
