Shimano SH-R321 bike shoes – first look

Components giant Shimano have put a lot of time and effort into their road shoes over the last few years, the R321s being their latest range-topping masterpieces.

The soles are heat mouldable so you can have a custom fit, and they're available in half sizes which is great news for anyone that comes up between sizes in their normal shoes.

On top, they have an innovative design that Shimano calls 'surround', which in theory spreads out the pressure from fastening across the top of the foot, in turn increasing comfort.

The upper's made from ultra-fine synthetic leather, which claims to be stretch resistant durable and lightweight – Shimano's given weight for a pair of these is 489g (admittedly for a UK 8), but if true, they're still an impressively light set of bike shoes.
