Challenge Weymouth secures 2015 European Long Distance Champs

Major win for organisers of Dorset's new, premier iron distance race, who just last year were making the hard decision to leave Henley after local resistance to closed roads

Challenge Weymouth has been picked to host next year's ETU European Long Distance Triathlon Championships in September 2015 – a major coup for the organisers who just one year ago were beset with difficulties in Henley, Berkshire.

Anticipation is already running high for this year's inaugural race in Weymouth on 14 September, which starts with a 3.8km sea swim and is followed by a 180km fast and smooth bike leg through the Dorset countryside, finishing with a 42.2km run along the seafront and finishing in the town centre.

And now being chosen to host one of two European Championship races in 2015 – the other being a half iron race at Challenge Rimini – marks a major turnaround for Challenge Weymouth organisers Just Racing UK, who made the hard decision to pull out of Henley last year after strong local resistance to the race being held on partially closed roads.

A limited number of entries are still available for this year’s Challenge Weymouth and Weymouth Half events at www.challengeweymouth.com. More details on the course here.
