Dearnford Lake in Shropshire is to be the home for the UK Tri-Fest 2013, a week-long festival of triathlon activities to be held from the 10-18 August for all ages and abilities, from 7yrs to 77yrs plus.

Dearnford Lake, Whitchurch, has been earmarked by UK Triathlon for a couple of years. Race Director Vic Bickerton says, “After 21 years of delivering events we launched the People’s Triathlon last year with a view to holding something special at this amazing venue in 2013. Everything is under one roof so to speak - onsite parking, camping for all the family, café with a licenced bar and shower and toilet facilities”.

Distances for the events start at 25m swim/1k bike/500m run for the 7-8yrs Kids Fun Triathlon and 200m swim/10k bike/2.5k run for the People’s Fun Triathlon, finishing with the Iron-distance of 2.4 mile swim/112 mile cycle/26.2 mile run. For those who may prefer to bike or run only there is no excuse as relay teams can enter all events.

Local Whitchurch company, Grocontinental, have sponsored the whole of the UK Tri-Fest and have commissioned a vehicle from their livery to travel up and down the country promoting the event in 3D graphics. The models used for the photo shoot are Grocontinental’s very own staff and have been given free race entries for the People’s Triathlon as a thank you for all their hard work.

Dearnford Lake will be hosting a range of events & activities over the course of the week, including a time trial for children around the lake perimeter. Check out their website www.dearnford.com for updates on this and other exciting events
