Epic Welsh triathlon the Slateman has sold out of full-distance spots for 2014, with over a thousand people signing up for the race, taking place in north Wales on 18 May.

Rob Samuel, event manager at organisers Always Aim High Events, said: "We are really proud of how this event has grown – it has now sold out two years in a row and is quickly becoming one of the largest triathlons in the UK."

The full-distance course involves a 1,000m swim in Llyn Padarn lake, followed by a 51km bike over the Llanberis Pass, then a 11km trail run through local slate quarries. Last year's race was won by Stephen Skates and Rhian Roxburgh.

There are still some spots remaining in the sprint-distance event (400m/20km/6km), taking place on 17 May, with around half of the 500 places still available, according to the organisers.
