Short documentary released of the Enduroman Arch to Arc World Record set by Mark Bayliss
Watch Mark as he attempts to complete the infamous Anglo-Franco challenge
A short documentary has been released of the Enduroman Arch to Arc World Record set by inov-8 athlete Mark Bayliss. The inspiring 15 minute film provides a real insight into how Mark Bayliss pushed himself to the limits of his performance to set a new World Record of 73 hours and 39 minutes for this ultra distance triathlon.
Starting from Marble Arch in London, the Arch to Arc involves a gruelling 87 mile run to Dover, a Channel swim from Dover to Calais and a 181 mile bike ride from Calais to the Arc de Triomphe, Paris.
The film shows how Mark, who weighs 93 kilograms, found the run stage of the event the most difficult as a result of suffering from sore feet and aching leg muscles. It then provides a close up view of the swim section with footage shot from the support boat – Mark powered across the Channel in 11 hours and 48 minutes without wearing a wetsuit. Finally the film follows Mark as he cycles 181 through northern France to the finish line at the Arc de Triomphe where he received an emotional greeting from his wife, Lucinda.
The documentary also features interviews with the previous World Record holder and Enduroman event organiser Eddie Ette – Mark beat Eddie’s longstanding record by 7 hours and 25 minutes.
Mark Bayliss is only the 11th athlete to have ever finished the Enduroman Arch to Arc and is the first person to have completed the ultra distance triathlon without the use of a wetsuit for the Channel swim.
When Mark reached the Arch de Triomphe he said “I went out wanting an adventure and we have had an adventure, it’s going to a take a while to sink in. At the moment it just feels like I am standing on a street corner (in Paris). I know it’s not a normal thing but since I have been training for years for this, and it was just putting together all the pieces that I do regularly, it doesn’t feel that abnormal and as such hasn’t fully hit me. It just feels, ‘Job done’ and home to friends and family.”
