Newcastle Tri entries open

Over 1,000 participants expected

Pre-registered entries have opened for the first Newcastle Triathlon, to be held on 19 July 2014 and featuring both standard and sprint-distance races.

The standard-distance race will start at 8am with a 1.5km swim in the Tyne from Millennium Bridge downstream to Ouseburn Cycle Hub, where they will enter T1 for a 40km cycle along the riverside to Scotswood Bridge and back. T2 will be followed by a 10km run around the quayside to finish in the shadow of the Tyne Bridge.

The sprint-distance race will start at 1pm and involve a slightly different route, involving a 750km swim followed by a 20km bike and a 5km run. There will also be beginner triathlon, starting at 11am and involving a 400m swim followed by a 12km bike and a 2.8km run.

General entries will open for the event on 15 November, and will cost £60-70 for the sprint and standard-distance races (depending on the date of registration), or £55-65 for the beginner race.
