British Triathlon is pleased to announce two additional qualification events that will take place this year for the 2013 Alanya ETU Triathlon European Championships.
The Worthing Sprint Triathlon on 12 August 2012 will become the second of three qualification races for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team in the sprint-distance event at the 2013 Alanya ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships. The event will follow the Grendon Triathlon on 13 May 2012, with the final chance for athletes to qualify on 16 September 2012 at Rother Valley.
The Bala Triathlon on 9 September 2012 is also confirmed today as the final addition to the qualification process for the standard-distance event in Turkey. The well known event will be the last chance for aspiring GE Great Britain Age-Group Team members to qualify, following the Bedford Classic on 29 July and the GE Strathclyde Park Triathlon on 2 September 2012.
British Triathlon Director for Age-Group Teams, Malcolm Westwood was delighted with the two events chosen commenting: “Both the events added to the qualification process for the European Championships in Turkey next year represent a fantastic opportunity for age-group athletes to qualify for the GE Great Britain Age-Group Team. They are well known events within the sport and I am confident will provide a great race experience for athletes.”
Malcolm added: “Last year across both sprint and standard distance events in Pontevedra we won 27 gold medals and with six qualification events, that will provide a real test of the athletes for 2013, I am confident we will have another strong British contingent capable of delivering more medal winning success.”
