Entries are flying in for The Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon, which takes place on Sunday 26 May at Lough Cutra Castle in Gort, Co. Galway. Numbers are more than double this time last year and look on course to reach 750 in only the second year of the event.

A total of six race distances are on offer - three for adults and three races for children from eight years and upwards. The adult triathlon races are over different distances for different levels of athlete, not all are the full Olympic length. The shortest adult race is called The Sprint and it consists of a 400m swim, a 20km cycle and a 4km run.

The children’s races are divided into three age groups starting with 8-10 year olds who do a 100m swim, 4km cycle and 1.3km run. 11-12 year olds have a slightly tougher challenge (200m swim, 4km cycle and 2km run) while the oldest age group of 13-15 year olds take on a 300m swim, 8km cycle and 4km run.

The official charity partners for Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon are the Sunni Mae Trust and the local Coole Football Team. Competitors are encouraged to fundraise for these causes.
