Jonny storms Brownlee Challenge
Thousands turn up for first Brownlee Tri as Jonathan wins against brother's three-man relay team
The Brownlee Tri enjoyed a successful debut in Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire last weekend, although the three-man relay team led by Alistair Brownlee to take on younger brother Jonathan in an exhibition race failed to beat him.
Around 1,000 entrants took part, eager to take on the 400m swim/10km bike/2.5km run around the grounds of Studley Royal estate (plus some public roads) before finishing in Fountains Abbey.
Two juniors posted the best times after the Brownlee brothers, with James Teagle the fastest man in 33:39mins, while the top-placing woman was Leah Peploe, who finished in 38:12mins.
In the Brownlee brothers’ exhibition race, Jonny finished the course in 32:28, nearly two minutes ahead of the relay team led by Alistair, which finished in 34:20.
We spoke last Friday to Mark Young and James McCormack, chosen by Alistair as his teammates after being struck down by injury at the World Championships
