Last weekend saw Ai Ueda (JPN) notch up her third win at the ITU Triathlon World Cup event in Huatulco, Mexico, while Luciano Taccone (ARG) became the surprise winner in the men’s race after race leader Aurelién Lescure (FRA) collapsed 50m before the finish line.

Taking second and third place in the women’s race were Claudia Rivas (MEX) and Mateja Simic (SLO), while Italy’s Davide Uccellari came second in the men’s race and Lescure managed to get back up in time to take third.

“It’s a bitter win, with Lescure faling right at the end,” Taccone said. “I wanted to stop and help him but with Uccellari coming up behind I didn’t want to lose the extra points, so I had to finish. I regret not helping him now, but I had to finish the race.”
