Despite a hectic schedule that puts Macavity the Mystery Cat to shame, Britain's four-time Ironman world champ (and our current cover star) Chrissie Wellington headed down to Devon last weekend to pick up the baton for a London 2012 legacy drive called the Join In Summer Relay.

A nationwide campaign to highlight the importance of volunteers in community sport, the relay reached Devon last weekend – where Chrissie helped out at a park run in Rock Park before heading to the Woolacombe coastline for an open-water swimming session with the North Devon Tri Club, a volunteer-led triathlon club in North Devon.

The Join In Summer Relay will continue throughout August, with sports clubs to be joined by exceptional athletes including swimmer Rebecca Adlington, middle distance runner Dame Kelly Holmes and sprint and hurdler Kriss Akabusi.

Chrissie Wellington is supporting the Join In Summer Relay to put more volunteers into community sport. For more information and to find local volunteering opportunities visit joininuk.org
