Dame Kelly Holmes makes a surprise appearance after event changed to a duathlon due to water conditions in Petworth Park Lake

Despite having to change format to a duathlon at the last minute due to the water quality in Petworth Park Lake, the first Brownlee Tri South welcomed over 700 athletes including Dame Kelly Holmes to West Sussex last weekend.

Alistair and Jonny Brownlee took part in the team relay event, which consisted of a 2km run, 29.5km bike then a final 5km run, and was won by the Physio Fitness and Wellbeing Race team with a time of 1:07:52. Dame Kelly Holmes’ team came 5th with a time of 1:22:50. Alistair Brownlee’s team came 11th at 1:31:59 and Jonny Brownlee’s came 17th with a time of 1:40:22.

Dame Kelly won the women’s individual super-sprint event (2km/16km/2.5km) with a time of 49:39mins, and Finn Barnes of Cambridge Triathlon Club was the fastest male with a time of 40:11mins. Andrew Greenleaf of the Serpentine Running Club was first in the individual sprint with 1:06:53, and Sarah Allen of London Fields Triathlon Club was the fastest female with a time of 1:20:29.
