The third Fambridge Yacht Haven Half Iron Triathlon took place on Sunday 2nd June and proved as popular as ever with plenty of people enjoying the experience and taking advantage of the fantastic weather on offer.

The 1.9km Zone 3 Swim provided a unique challenge with competitors swimming alongside the moored yachts on their way to posting some great swim splits. It was great to see a large number of spectators gather to watch the start and cheer the athletes on.

The 90km cycle course was well-received by the athletes with many commenting on how much they enjoyed the course and the scenery. The sun shined throughout and an enormous crowd of people came out to support the athletes with the Ferry Boat Inn providing a great spot to watch the event. With 4 laps to complete of the 18km Hi-Tec Run there was plenty of opportunity to cheer on the athletes and they certainly appreciated the support.

It wasn't just the supporters who created the incredible atmosphere however, the marshals were truly amazing and each and every one of the athletes seemed to be running around with a big smile on their face. As the athletes began crossing the finishing line many of those smiles turned into tears as they realised what they had achieved!

Keith Brown of VO2 Maximum RT won in an incredible of 4hrs 20mins 16s with Kate Lahart of East Essex Tri Club finishing top female in 4hrs 58mins 42s. In the relay, Team Toms Birthday won in a time of 4hrs 45mins 2s

As a community based event organisers Dengie Events were very pleased to have raised significant funds for the RNLI Burnham on Crouch and South Woodham Ferrers Air Cadets. Many of those taking part did so in aid of charity and of those a special mention goes to Patrick John who raised over £1000 for Dravet Syndrome UK.

We would like to thank Fambridge Yacht Haven, the RNLI, the Ferry Boat Inn, Essex Wildlife Trust and the event sponsors; RG Active, Zoggs, Hi-Tec, Zone 3, Higher Nature, Tri N Swim Well, Tri & Tri Again, Amphibia Sport, Precreate Solutions, Yellow Jersey Cycles and Harpers Fitness.

Our next event is The Maldon Triathlon on 21st July. There are just 20 places remaining. For more information or to enter please visit: www.dengieevents.co.uk
