Elite Champs entry goes live

British Triathlon accept entries to Loughborough event

British Triathlon has announced that entries are now open for the 2010 British Elite Duathlon Championships to be held at Prestwold Airfield, Loughborough on 28 March. The event, won by Alistair Brownlee in the men’s and Sophie Coleman in the women’s junior race last year, has a prize pot of £5000.

2010 is set to be a huge year for Duathon, with the Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships set to take place in Holyrood Park from 3-5 September 2010. The event in Loughborough is the second major duathlon event of the season following on quickly from the Age Group British Duathlon Championships to be held at Clumber Park earlier in March.

The Elite Duathlon in Loughborough last year saw several athletes take part and go on to be crowned world champions later in the year. This year’s event is likely to see fierce racing, with not only British Championship titles at stake, but also a £5000 prize fund on offer and an opportunity for athletes to put themselves in line for selection for the elite teams at the ITU World and ETU European Duathlon Championships in 2010. The selection policies for these events can be found at www.britishtriathlon.org

The seniors and juniors will race together over a 5km run, 20km bike and finishing with 2.5km run, with athletes from both categories eligible to win the prize money. Youths will race over 2.5k run, 10km bike and 1.25km run. The event will also see the inaugural British Paraduathlon Championships, which will be contested over 5km run, 20km bike and 2.5km run.

National Paratriathlon Programme Manager Jonathon Riall commented on the inclusion of Paraduathlon in the British Elite Duathlon Championships: “It is a great step forward for disabled athletes within the UK that British Triathlon now offers a wider range of multi sport events to take part in, and we hope this will help increase the overall participation in the sport. It is especially exciting that we are able to offer this opportunity in the year that Edinburgh includes a Paraduathlon wave within the 2010 Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships.”

The event is being organised by Just Racing UK on behalf of British Triathlon, entry details can be found at www.justracinguk.com
