The Corus British Paratriathlon Championships featuring members of the recently launched GB Paratriathlon squad have been re-located to Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham on 22 August 2010.

Jonathon Riall, National Paratriathlon Programme Manager, commented: “For an event of this calibre it’s essential that athletes have the opportunity to perform to the best of their ability, and this is why we have taken the decision to relocate the Championships to Holme Pierrepont.

“Rother Valley Country Park, the original venue is undergoing considerable improvements, which may not be completed in time for the event. One kilometre of the route is currently being resurfaced and an application for funding has been submitted to Sport England for the remaining part of the course, of which the decision for this funding is unknown at this time.

“We hope to return to Rother Valley Country Park in the future as it’s an ideal location for triathlon and paratriathlon events. Holme Pierrepont is a tried and tested venue that we have used in the past, and athletes will have the benefit of competing during one of the most popular weekends on the triathlon calendar.”

The sport has grown enormously in the last five years. With the International Paralympic Committee considering the sport’s bid for programme status in Rio 2016, the Corus British Paratriathlon Championships will prove to be an important race for the 2010 calendar.

The Rother Valley Triathlon Festival will continue as planned, offering Age Group athletes the opportunity to qualify for the sprint distance races for the 2010 Budapest ITU Sprint Triathlon World Championships in 2010 and the 2011 ETU Sprint Triathlon European Championships.
