Brooks Cascadia 6

Slipping on the 379g Cascadias, they instantly feel comfortable. Setting off down the road, they’re light, responsive and encourage you to run with good technique.

There’s enough cushioning to satisfy runners coming from a road background and to take the sting out of hard surfaces, but not an excessive amount. They’re spot on for non-technical trails, and breathe and shed water very well.

Heading into the hills, although the tread doesn’t appear über-aggressive, they climb very well and cope with most surfaces apart from thick mud where they do clog and slide a bit. On descents, they grip well and thrive on loose, rocky and dusty surfaces.

They’re a bit of a handful on wet grass and mud and aren’t 100% assured contouring, but considering the range was developed with the US Western States 100 in mind, this isn’t a massive surprise.
