Campagnolo Bora Ultra 50 Clincher bike wheels review

Campagnolo quite rightly has a reputation for producing superb wheelsets, and the new clincher versions of their Bora Ultra 50 wheels certainly continue that trend.

>>> Best race wheels of 2015

The clincher rim adds a couple of hundred grams over the tubular versions, but still come in at just over 1,400g, which, for a 50mm deep rim, is pretty impressive.

The 24.2mm width isn’t right up there on trend with the latest super-wide rims, but it didn’t have a detrimental effect on how these rolled at all. In fact, they’re a fantastic set of wheels.

They spin up to speed very quickly, hold that speed well and brake superbly in the dry and well in the wet.

Of course, they only accept Campag cassettes – although, with 11-speed, Campag cassettes work perfectly well with Shimano and SRAM drivetrains.

The only sticking point is the price, which is incredibly high. Whether they’re worth it or not depends on whether you think any set of wheels could be worth this much.

Verdict: Fantastic set of wheels, but the price tag is huge, 90%
