Fizik launches all-new triathlon range

After some new triathlon-specific bike shoes or saddles? Fizik's new range might be just what you're looking for...

Fizik is a favourite for age-groupers and top triathletes alike, including both Brownlee brothers and Alex Yee.

And understandably so… some of the brands triathlon bike shoes and triathlon-specific bike saddles have scored particularly highly in 220’s testing over the years.

That includes the Transiro Infinito R1 Knit shoes, which scored 89%, and the Transiro Mistica saddle, which scored 93%.

Now, there are some new kids on the block, including tri-specific shoes and saddles.

Say hello to the Transiro Hydra

The new Transiro Hydra (£149.99) shoes come in two guises, the aforementioned one, plus the Transiro Hydra Aeroweave Carbon (£289.99).

Let’s take a look at the standard Hydra first. As you’d expect from a tri-specific shoe, it’s built around easier and faster transitions.

To help with that, there’s a single Velcro strap designed for easy fastening/unfastening, with a wide opening tasked to avoid any wasted minutes.

A nylon outsole is said to offer moderate stiffness (level six on the stiffness index), while the 3D mesh upper has been constructed to prioritise breathability and help things dry quickly if you want to race sockless.

Meanwhile, the Aeroweave Carbon takes all of that but takes things one step further with the addition of a stiff carbon outsole (stiffness index 10) and the brand’s second-generation Aeroweave upper.

Time to saddle up

Also launched this week are the brand’s new triathlon saddles, the Transiro Aeris.

There are long-distance and short-distance versions available, which have been developed in association with expert bike fitters to ensure maximised foot support and aero positions.

The new saddles come with longer rails that offer an increased range of adjustability, which fizik hopes will help you find your optimum forward position.

Fizik also says that they’re “equipped with a revolutionary rail insertion that provides enhanced aerodynamics while remaining compliant with UCI regulations.”

The long-distance model comes with a 55mm-wide split nose for improved pressure relief and stability, while the short-distance option features a 45mm-wide nose and traditional cutout for distributing pressure across key contact points.

All saddles are also designed to be compatible with saddle-mounted bottle cages, with fizik offering its own bottle cage as part of the range.

Saddle prices start at £104.99 for options with alloy rails and top out at £179.99 for those with carbon rails.

British triathlete-of-the-moment Alex Yee was involved in the development of this range and had this to say: “It's been a pleasure working behind the scenes with fizik on this range, I have been very impressed with the results both in training and at race level.

“I will be using the Transiro Hydra Aeroweave Carbon throughout the season.

“Currently, I’m focused on the rest of the WTCS calendar, retaining my position at the top of the [World Triathlon Championship] rankings and also looking to race at some SLT races.”
