Ironman launches new bike training camp
Ironman's new bike training camp is set to take place at Alpe d'Huez and will focus on the key skills you need for a hilly triathlon
Ironman has launched a new bike training camp – the Ironman Veloskills Masterclass – which aims to help long-distance triathletes hone their bike skills and build confidence.
The first one is due to take place on 21-26 June 2022 and the all-inclusive trip will cumulate with entry into the three-day Haute Route Alpe d’Huez cycling event.
With the world-famous Alpe d’Huez as a backdrop, the Ironman Veloskills camp is designed to teach athletes the foundations of how to ascend and descend safely and efficiently, as well as wider bike skills and knowledge.
Triathletes will practise key bike leg basics with Ironman U coaches Nick Busca and Chris Myers, with workshops on how to assemble your bike, how to ensure it’s race-ready, and how to put in place a personal nutrition strategy on the bike and course.
With all meals and accommodation provided, the camp will also include time to relax each evening with Hyperice guided recovery sessions and group dinners.
The final three days of the camp will see athletes taking part in the Haute Route Alpe d’Huez experience, which is a three-day cycling event covering a total of 236km and 8,650m elevation gain.
The route is set to take athletes along some of the world’s most beautiful climbs, starting with the highest of the weekend at la Croix de Fer on day one, before tackling ramps above 13% along le Col de Sarenne on the second day, cumulating with the 21 switchbacks along the renowned Alpe d’Huez during the 15km time trial on the final day. Check out each stage in detail here.
Throughout the event cyclists will receive on-course mechanical and nutrition support, as well as post-stage lunches and recovery massage.
