World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organisation reveal tour calendars for 2027

World Triathlon and the Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) have revealed the globetrotting tour calendars for 2027 featuring a host of big cities including London, Rome and Los Angeles – as the USA’s west coast starts its preparations for the 2028 Olympics.

Both the T50 and T100 series feature some of the biggest names in the sport including Olympic champions Alex Yee and Cassandre Beaugrand, current world champions Hayden Wilde and Matt Hauser, and former world champions such as Taylor Knibb and Beth Potter.

The T50 series is a rebranding of the current World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS), the top tier of elite short course racing, and recognises the PTO’s growing partnership with World Triathlon as it leads commercial operations.

The existing WTCS is contested over sprint (750m swim, 20km cycle, 5km run) and standard (1,500m swim, 40km cycle, 10km run) distances in a draft-legal format. Distances haven’t yet been confirmed for the T50 format.

The T100 series, also known as the Race to Qatar, was launched in 2024. A non-drafting event (athletes aren’t allowed to benefit from the slipstream on the bike), it is raced over 100km comprising a 2km swim, 80km cycle and 18km run.

The Triathlon World Tour was originally announced by the PTO and World Triathlon in December 2025. It was partially in response to a Deloitte report commissioned by World Triathlon to assess the sport and reimagine its future and sustainable growth.

The plan is to have mass participation racing at each event. More Championship events could be added to the roster, and a further calendar of Challenger events will be announced at the World Triathlon Congress in Pontevedra in September.

The Challenger series will include former World Cup races and events that previously went under the Challenge Family banner, after the PTO acquired the brand in February. There will also be further details announced on increased prize money for the T50 World Championship Tour.

As in 2026, the elite fields for T100 races will alternate between male and female pros for 2027, with the T50 series following the current scheduling of the WTCS with both sexes racing at every location.

World Triathlon president Antonio Arimany said: “We could have waited until the end of the current Olympic qualification before making the changes, but the changes we’re making were too important to wait.

“By introducing the Triathlon World Tour now we are creating one unified structure and brand which can unify as many events as possible, creating a win-win situation for all of us in the sport.”

Speaking at the announcement, PTO CEO Sam Renouf said: “The first thing to say is a big thank you to all our event hosts for getting this initial 2027 calendar announced earlier than ever before.

“We know how important this is to help all our stakeholders in the sport, whether that’s the professionals, the fans or the amateurs who want to participate.

“A key focus for us is securing long-term hosting partnerships with iconic locations – due to their triathlon pedigree, like Yokohama or Hamburg, or simply because of their global status, like Los Angeles or Abu Dhabi.

“This was a core tenet of the initial T100 strategy, with long-term hosts like Singapore, Qatar and San Francisco, so we’re particularly excited to be bringing London, Los Angeles and Rome to the T50 Tour in 2027 – setting the tone for this new future.

“From a Triathlon World Tour perspective, this announcement is a significant step forward towards the PTO’s mission of transforming triathlon and taking it mainstream. In order to do that, we need to get more people participating in the sport at every level, which is why creating one unified brand and competition structure is so important – to make it as simple and engaging as possible for everybody to understand and get involved.”
