Canyon's range-topping Speedmax triathlon bikes have seen much success over the years. They have six world championships to their name and have propelled the likes of Jan Frodeno to multiple victories.
Of course, they do come at a price and that price isn't necessarily accessible for everyone. The Speedmax CFR starts at £10,499, while the CF SLX is available from £8,099.
Luckily, there's also the more wallet-friendly Speedmax CF starting from £3,849, and the good news is that it's just had a significant revamp...
What's new?
Chief among those updates is an all-new 'pro-level' integrated cockpit, which takes inspiration from the setups used by the sport's best athletes, says Canyon.
The introduction of the CP0041 cockpit means all models in the Speedmax range come with cable and line integration.
"For years, we’ve used a fully integrated cockpit design on the Speedmax CFR raced by our pros," says Moritz Hief, Junior Product Manager at Canyon.
"With the new Speedmax CF, our goal was to let even more athletes reap the rewards of those pro-driven developments by making them available at an unprecedented point in the market.
"The benefits of integrated cockpit designs are significant and well established – they’re more aesthetic, they’re cleaner, and they save vital watts compared to a traditional design with externally routed cables and lines.”
This new cockpit also works with Canyon's new hydration system, which allows you to carry up to 750ml of fluids in a way that doesn't compromise aerodynamics, though this doesn't ship with the bikes as standard.
It comes with a drinking straw that sticks to the cockpit via a magnet, meaning you can take on your hydration while in your aero tuck.
What else should you know?
In addition to the hydration system, the bike can carry up to five bottles, giving you plenty of volume for long-distance triathlons.
That cockpit is fully adjustable, too, allowing you to amend the length of the aero extensions or the angle via a stepless adjustment.
You'll also find a bento box on the top tube with a hardshell design and flip lid, giving you the opportunity to store energy gels and energy bars in a dry spot.
Via the bento box, you can also access a neoprene tool snake, which fits into the bike's top tube storage compartment. Canyon says there's enough space here for a CO2 cartridge and tyre levers.
There's more storage down below thanks to a detatchable rubber tool pouch that's housed above the bottom bracket and is designed to take slightly larger items.
Like it's more expensive brethren, the Speedmax CF also benefits from an aerodynamic carbon frame that's been refined both in the wind tunnel and through the use of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) tech.
Price and build options
The updated Speedmax CF is available in two builds, which are as follows:
- Speedmax CF 7: Mechanical Shimano 105, 4iii Precision Slim power meter, DT Swiss ARC 1600 Spline wheels (£3,849)
- Speedmax CF 7 AXS: SRAM Rival AXS shifting, spindle-integrated power meters, SRAM Vuka Shift AXS wireless aerobar shifting system, DT Swiss ARC 1600 wheels (£5,249)
