USN Silverstone Duathlon report

Thursday's review has just dropped in our inbox

Phil Holland stormed to victory in Race Three of the USN Votwo Silverstone Duathlon (2-mile run/10-mile bike/2-mile run) on Thursday.

Corley Cycles’ competitor Holland carved out a series of impressive times to record a winning margin of 32secs in the event. His winning time of 44:22mins featured a 10:08min first run, 23:15min bike and 10:30min second run.

In second place was Rich Sumpter (44:54mins), with Philip Melling third (45:17mins). The first woman home was Team Votwo’s own Hannah Bedford, who clocked 54:42mins. Team PSUK’s Andy Day was the first male veteran home in 48:11mins, which was enough for fifth place overall. There were 108 finishers.

Event organiser Ben Mason said: “It went very well. We used the southern circuit at Silverstone, which involved five laps of the bike, and people enjoyed this more. The competitors went past more people more times.

“It wasn’t windy, which was a real bonus. It was a beautiful, relaxed evening, and we had a real mix of people doing it. There were hardcore racers and first-timers. Because it’s a traffic-free course, it’s ideal for everyone.”

The next race in the USN Votwo Silverstone Duathlon Series takes place on Tuesday 2 August. For further information, check out www.votwo.co.uk
