Ritchie Nicholls turns up the heat in Chile

London Tri winner starts season in style in Vina del Mar

Ritchie Nicholls started his season in style with victory at the 2012 Vina del Mar ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup in Chile yesterday (Sunday).

Nicholls had work to do after emerging from the swim trailing, but set the second fastest bike leg and the fastest run to finished 30 seconds ahead of Spain’s Fernando Alarza in a time of one hour, 43 minutes and 53 seconds.

The 24-year-old is looking to build on a solid season last year, which included victories at the Virgin Active London Triathlon and the Zurich 5150 in Switzerland.

He will now base himself in Florida for some further warm weather training before racing the 2012 Bridgetown ITU Sprint Triathlon Pan American Cup in Barbados on 12 February.
