iPhone first for Challenge Wanaka

New Zealand’s largest triathlon festival, Challenge Wanaka (9-15 January), is the first New Zealand triathlon to feature on iPhone

New Zealand’s largest triathlon festival, Challenge Wanaka (9-15 January), is the first New Zealand triathlon to feature on iPhone, allowing supporters and triathlon fans around the world to watch the action unfurl on screen.



The app, powered by Sport Splits, will allow users to follow any of the athletes’ progress around the demanding Challenge Wanaka course on 15 January.



Those without an iPhone can also follow friends and family through a real time text message service that provides splits from around the course to a pre-registered number.



Featuring some of the biggest international names in triathlon, Challenge Wanaka attracts over 1,200 athletes from 27 nations to take on the triathlon’s ultimate distance, 226km of swim, bike, run through the foothills of the spectacular Southern Alps. It is the flagship event in the week-long Challenge Wanaka Triathlon Festival involving over 2,000 athletes of all ages and abilities. Other events include Puzzling World Junior Challenge Wanaka, Radio Wanaka 5km Charity Fun Run/Walk, the Contact Tri Series and the Lake Wanaka Half.
