Holiday Inn launch athlete employment programme
Holiday Inn confirms its plan for a national roll-out of the Holiday Inn athlete employment programme; spaces going for the scheme now
Following a year-long pilot, Holiday Inn has confirmed its plan for a national roll-out of the Holiday Inn athlete employment programme. The aim of the programme is to provide flexible employment for British athletes with the ambition to recruit up to 15 athletes in 2011.
The athlete employment programme will employ a number of aspiring Olympic and Paralympic athletes at Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels across the UK. Holiday Inn is currently recruiting suitable candidates to join the scheme. The athletes will be able to earn money and fit their work around their training schedules in the lead up to the Games. They will also be given the chance to gain valuable skills and training which they can draw on for future job opportunities.
Following a year-long pilot with four athletes, the athlete employment programme has had ringing endorsements from the BOA (British Olympic Association) and EIS (English Institute of Sport).
The Holiday Inn athlete employment programme will provide a matching service for athletes looking for employment opportunities, through the extensive network of Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels in the UK.
Last year’s pilot successfully placed a number of athletes. For example, Tom Hide, K1 200 Canoe Kayak, embarked on a role in the food and beverage team at the Holiday Inn London Heathrow. Tom said: “The experience of working with a large company, and learning how to talk to guests has been invaluable. The hotel has also been really flexible with time off for camps and training, which is a massive help!”
The programme will provide the following benefits to athletes:
o Paid employment
o Flexible working hours around training and competitions
o Employee accommodation discounts
o Additional food & beverage discounts
o Access to additional career training opportunities
o Exposure via Holiday Inn brand family marketing activities in the UK
o Location local to home / training centre
o Food on shift
o Uniform
Holiday Inn is the Official Hotel Provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
