Corinne Abraham pulls out of Kona

Injury rules GB hopeful out of Ironman Hawaii

British elite Corinne Abraham has withdrawn from this year’s Ironman Hawaii due to injury, ceding her place to the next athlete in the rankings, Haley Chura (US).

Abraham, who won Ironman Melbourne earlier this year by a whopping 16 minutes, told 220 Triathlon: “Although the timing sucks for me, I’m glad that it worked out so that someone else who has been training and racing hard to get to the start line, could be there.”

Britain’s remaining female Kona hopefuls include Jodie Swallow, Liz Blatchford, Rachel Joyce and last year’s winner Leanda Cave, who finished in a time of 9:15:54.

This year’s Ironman World Championship will take place in Hawaii on 12 October.
