Blummenfelt and Haug take top spot in PTO World Rankings
The Professional Triathlete Organisation (PTO) has announced its end-of-year rankings for 2023 and it’s back-to-back wins for both Kristian Blummenfelt and Anne Haug.
Both athletes also took top spot at the end of 2022 and have once again shown why they’re up there with the best of the best.
Their reward for taking top spot is not only prestige, but also a sizeable cheque for $100,000.
Men’s PTO World Rankings 2024
Speaking about taking the men’s top spot, Norwegian ace Blummenfelt said: “Finishing top of the PTO World Rankings again is something I’m very proud of. Every time I take to the start line, I race to win. It’s who I am as an athlete.
“I want to race the best athletes and that is exactly what it’s like in a PTO Tour race, so it’s no coincidence my three scoring results came in those races.”
Athlete’s final ranking is based on their three best scores across the season (find out more about PTO rankings and scores here) and in Blummenfelt’s case, that was the PTO Asian Open, PTO European Open and PTO US Open.
Meanwhile, Magnus Ditlev took second spot, Jason West took third and Jan Frodeno took fourth in his final year as a pro.
Women’s PTO World Rankings 2024
Haug’s three results propelling her to top spot were the PTO European Open, Ironman World Championship (where she finished second behind Lucy Charles-Barclay) and the PTO Asian Open.
“Finishing the season on the PTO top spot again makes me more than proud,” said the German.
“It has been a really great year for me. Especially the win in Ibiza, which was a kind of a milestone in my career, because it had one of the greatest women’s fields in the history of the sport. I absolutely love the fast racing against the best in the world and can’t wait for the new PTO series to start.”
Taking second place in the rankings was PTO Open specialist Ashleigh Gentle, followed by the ever-more-impressive Taylor Knibb and Charles-Barclay in fourth.
