Black Friday 2024: all you need to know about shopping for Black Friday triathlon deals

Black Friday is a good time to shop for triathlon deals. Here, we explain how to find proper reductions without wasting your time and money.

Selection of Black Friday Garmin deals

Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping events of the year and is a great chance to bag a bargain on all kinds of goods.

Held on the last Friday of November to coincide with Thanksgiving in the US, Black Friday falls on 29th November in 2024.

Triathletes can expect to see big discounts on nutrition products, clothing (like tri-suits) and even bigger-ticket items such as multisport watches and triathlon bikes.

With Black Friday only days away, some retailers have already launched their Black Friday triathlon deals. We’ve rounded up the best deals we’ve found for you on running, swimming and cycling gear.

Meanwhile in this article, we’ll explain how to sort a good deal from a dud, or even worse, a scam.

More broadly, we’ll offer advice on how to shop online in and around Black Friday.

How to spot a Black Friday triathlon deal

Consider why a product might be reduced in price.

Just because a product is reduced, it doesn’t mean it represents a good deal. For example, it could just be a poor-quality item.

For this reason, check reviews of the product from reputable, independent websites, such as 220 Triathlon, before checking out.

Another reason something might be discounted is that it’s old or being replaced by a newer model.

While this isn’t necessarily a problem, you should check that the brand will continue to support the previous version.

If it’s a tech gadget, will it receive the latest software updates? Will you be able to source replacement parts for a bike or wheelset you buy?

If the answer’s no, you might be buying into a soon-to-be obsolete technology.

Sometimes it’s hard to be sure, but it’s worth bearing in mind.

A common trick some retailers use around Black Friday is to raise the price of a product months beforehand then ‘reduce’ it for the day.

The result is that the Black Friday price is not a deal at all, and could even be pricier than RRP.

To dodge this trap, follow the real price of products yourself before Black Friday.

Or, on the day itself, you use price tracking websites, such as camelcamelcamel, to look back on how a price has changed in the past.

How to avoid scams and fake deals

The old adage that ‘if it looks too good to be true, it probably is’ still holds true, and never more so than on Black Friday.

Be wary of suspiciously low prices. These may not include the product you’re expecting or it could be an outdated model that is nearly redundant.

In the worst case scenario, someone could even be trying to scam you.

To reduce your likelihood of getting conned out of cash, only shop on websites that you trust.

Take any deal circulating on social media with a pinch of salt. A fraudster could be trying to impersonate a popular website.

How to shop on Black Friday

Research, research, research

The best approach to Black Friday shopping is to hone in on one or two products you want and specifically search for them on the day.

This way you’ll know you actually want the product, you’ll be able to recognise a genuine saving and you won’t waste time speculatively trawling through websites.

Leave the work to experts

We’ll scour sites for the best Black Friday triathlon deals to save you time and money. So make sure you visit the 220 Triathlon homepage before starting your bargain hunt.

Compare price

When you spot what you think is an excellent bargain on a particular product, it’s still worth checking what other retailers are offering on it.

Their prices may be lower or they may charge less for shipping, for example.

Be prepared to step away

If you can’t find an outright deal on Black Friday, you’re better off saving your money than wasting cash on something you don’t need.

There’ll be sales over Christmas and other promotional periods, like Amazon Prime Day, to give you another chance.

Where to shop on Black Friday

Black Friday has been adopted by almost all retailers, and cycling, running and swimming gear websites are no different.

But it’s worth looking elsewhere too.

There are also good Amazon Black Friday deals on triathlon stuff. The massive online retailer tends to offer big discounts on energy gels, bike computers and most things in between.

Why you should trust 220 Triathlon

At 220 Triathlon, our testing is always independent, rigorous and informed by our expert knowledge.

We’ll use this same objectivity and expertise to select Black Friday deals for you: often we’ll have reviewed products we recommend and or have bought and used them ourselves.

Moreover, we’re attuned to the prices of these products, so we can recognise when a reduction is genuine.
