What is the difference between running tights and leggings?
Are there any differences between running tights and leggings? Are they not the same? And which should you be wearing when you run? Kate Milsom explains
Running tights and leggings are very similar, in that they both cover the legs and are a stretchy, often lycra-based material to allow movement for running, but they do they differ…
What are running leggings?
Running leggings are made of thick opaque material and can be worn without over shorts. These are breathable, form-fitting leggings worn for warmth and coverage. You can get full length or ¾ length leggings, as well as normal or compression ones. Compression leggings are tighter with specifically positioned seams, these encourage blood flow to the muscles to speed up recovery after a run or aid performance during.
What are running tights?
Running tights are very similar to leggings, yet they are more translucent, and it is necessary to wear shorts or another layer over the top of them. These are worn more for their thermal qualities, or for modesty under shorter layers. Tights often enclose the foot or have a loop for the ankle. Men may choose to wear these under shorts during the colder months.
