The Austrian town of Zell am See-Kaprun has been picked to host the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championship on 30th August, beating off competition from Norway, Luxembourg and France to host Europe's first 70.3 Worlds.
While no further details have been released about the course yet, Ironman CEO Andrew Messick has previously said that the 2015 course will be both "scenic and challenging" – not hard to achieve with the massive 3,203m-high Kitzsteinhorn glacier nearby. More details are expected to be released at a press conference on 8th April.
Zell am See-Kaprun sits 750m above sea level in the state of Salzburg, giving athletes easy access via the capital city's airport. Each age-group winner from this year's 70.3 World Championship in Mont Tremblant, Canada will automatically qualify for the 2015 finals.
The other three European destinations vying against Zell am See-Kaprun to hold the 2015 finals were Haugesund in Norway, Region Mosell in Luxembourg and Nice in France.
