Georgia Taylor-Brown took second in a tight World Cup Triathlon Lanzarote in which just eight seconds separated the podium places.

Racing the day before her 31st birthday, the three-time Olympic medallist lost by seven seconds to German winner Nina Eim.

Her compatriot Laura Lindemann, the mixed relay Olympic gold medallist in Paris, rounded off the podium.

Taylor-Brown is a short-distance specialist by trade, but has diversified her portfolio since the Paris Olympics. On debut she finished fourth at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships.

“It felt really special. There have been a lot of changes over the last year, becoming a mum and also racing now with my married name, so it almost felt like the start of a new chapter,” she said after her first World Triathlon race in two years.

“Having Phoebe here in Lanzarote made it even more meaningful. It’s taken a lot to get back to the start line, so today was about enjoying the process again and being grateful to race.”

Despite having to wait for 10 seconds to serve a penalty, David Cantero Del Campo clocked the fastest run split of the day to win the men’s event.

He pipped second-place Tim Hellwig by three seconds with Jawad Abdelmoula a further 13 seconds back.

“I had to stay calm and trust my legs to make up those ten seconds. Winning here, at home, against athletes like Tim and Dorian, is the perfect start to 2026,” said Cantero Del Campo.
