Top female field for the GE Canary Wharf Triathlon

The GE Canary Wharf Triathlon will play host to top elite athletes including 2011 winner Erin Densham and European Junior triathlon Champion Georgia Taylor-Brown on the evening of Thursday 28 June in the iconic Canary Wharf.

A selection of the world’s best elite triathletes will take on a Super-Sprint eliminator in what promises to be a high-octane spectacle around the iconic Canary Wharf, London’s premier business and shopping district.

Through a series of fast-paced 30 minute heats, consisting of a 400m swim, 10km bike and 2km run, 50 starters will be cut to 20 finalists competing for the men’s and women’s titles.

Australian Densham is no stranger to the event, having won the inaugural GE Canary Wharf Triathlon last year, seeing off British duo, overall Super Series winner Jodie Stimpson and Hollie Avil in a nail-biting finale.

27-year-old Densham, who will be back in London on 4 August competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games, admits she’s desperate to repeat her winning feats this time around in an event she considers truly “unique”.

The New South Wales athlete said: “I’m thrilled to be once again competing at the GE Canary Wharf Triathlon. It’s a fantastic event and one that I really look forward to.

“With the event being held in the heart of London’s financial district, it has a very special distinction. I’m sure everyone who attended, watched or took part last year will agree with me when I say it’s a wonderful experience and very unique.”

British terrestrial broadcaster Channel 4 has confirmed it will screen highlights of the race in two half hour specials, which will be available in high definition for the first time this year. Highlights for the women’s race will air on July 15 and on July 22 for the men’s race.
