Jeanne Lehair and Csongor Lehmann win Supertri Toulouse Grand Final to secure overall league titles
Lehair's partner then proposed to her on the podium to round off a jubiliant day
Jeanne Lehair and Csongor Lehmann triumphed in the Supertri Toulouse Grand Final to confirm their victories in the League Championships. The Luxembourger had another reason to celebrate after her partner proposed to her on the podium.
Lehair pulled away from Podium Racing colleague Léonie Périault, who finished second on the day and overall, on the last run leg and cemented their squad’s win in the teams championship.
Georgia Taylor-Brown came third in the league having come fourth on the day behind Jess Fullagar in third.
In the men’s race, Lehmann won his second event on the bounce by seven seconds ahead of Stars & Stripes teammate Seth Rider.
Vasco Vilaça’s third place on the day earned him second in the league while Ricardo Batista completed the overall podium.
Contested in the Supertri format with no gaps between the three swim, bike and run legs, the Toulouse course featured a swim in Garonne river and zigzagging and hilly city-centre bike and runs.
What happened in the women’s race?
After the first 300m swim, Fanni Szalai led Lehair and Taylor-Brown to earn a Short Chute but last year’s champion gained four seconds on the bike before being reeled in by Fullagar. On the 1.2km run, Lehair pushed on to join Fullagar and create a significant lead over the rest.
A six-strong group formed on the second swim after Taylor-Brown, Périault, Szalai and Jolien Vermeylen caught the leaders. A split on the second bike leg briefly saw Lehair, Fullagar and Vermeylen go clear but the six later regrouped. During the second run, Szalai and Vermeylen dropped off the front four.
A botched swim-to-bike transition caused Périault to lose time and Taylor-Brown took to the front on the bike but couldn’t create an advantage. On the final leg, Périault and Lehair were in the running for overall victory but the 29-year-old Luxembourger was too strong despite declining to use her Short Chute.
Lehair said: “I’m almost more relieved than happy! When I crossed the line, I was like ‘Amen, finally!’ I’m happy to win here and the overall series victory as well.
“We [Lehair and Périault] were still having to think about the team out there as well, which made it more complicated instead of just going for the individual title. But it’s finally a happy ending for me here.”

What happened in the men’s race?
Marcus Dey took a sizable lead in the day’s first swim followed by Seth Rider before the pair were joined by Tayler Reid and Lehmann on the bike. Thanks to winning the Short Chute, Lehmann led into the first run and carried a seven-second lead back into the water.
Rider had overtaken Lehmann by the end of the second swim with Vilaça trailing by 13 seconds. Reid combined with the Stars and Stripes duo on the second bike to create a 15-second gap to the Portuguese athlete. The pair then dropped him on the penultimate run, leaving Vannerson, another teammate in third.
Their lead stayed at seven seconds following the final swim, which they increased to 14 seconds on the bike leg in which Vannerson slid out in the rain. Lehmann left Rider in his wake on the last run and Vilaça held on to third.
After his win, the 26-year-old Hungarian said: “I’m almost speechless, it was crazy from the very beginning.
“I was working perfectly with Seth on the swim, bike and run – it was just a dream team. And this is like a dream coming true for me.
“It was a really tough race today and we pushed so hard on the first run to create a gap in front of the other guys and from there we pushed all the way until the end. Stars & Stripes was rocking today!”
