Roundup: this weekend’s triathlon calendar

Plenty of races still happening around the country… PLUS your chance to be featured on our website!

Don’t be fooled by the autumn leaves and post-World Champs comedown – the 2013 tri season is not over quite yet.

We’ve rounded up the big events happening around the UK this weekend, and offer you the chance to get your race photos into the website this Monday (see below race listings).

South West England

The Bath Triathlon & Multisport Weekend

Langport Women’s Triathlon

Debut event aimed at novices, limited to 150 entries and taking place in the leisure centre’s outdoor pool, local roads and cross country.

Newquay Triathlon

Wales

The Brutal Half, Full and Double

Brutal events take place in an area of outstanding natural beauty, include lots of hills or mountains (or preferably both) and aim to make ‘normal’ people say “you’re doing WHAT..?!”

The Gower Triathlon, Wales

The Gower Triathlon is an Olympic distance event set in the stunning location of Port Eynon Bay in Wales.

Aberystwyth Seaside Sprint Triathlon

750m swim in open sea, 30km bike along “challenging” route and 5km run along almost flat course.

Anglesey Sandman Triathlon

The Full Sandman starts with a sea swim off Llanddwyn beach followed by a circular cycle via the famously-long-named town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

Southern England

Eton Man

Brand-new half Iron-distance event (1.9km swim/90km bike/21km run) using new road infrastructure developed for the 2012 Olympics and part of the ‘Day of Endurance’ at Eton Dorney.

Primera New Forest Middle Distance

Award-winning event with the emphasis on enjoyment rather than personal bests (watch out for the local wildlife!).

Nuclear Burn Duathlon

An event for all fitness levels and abilities, the Nuclear Burn promises to test and thrill you, exhilarate and demand from you – in equal measure.

The Viking

True to its imposing moniker, the Viking is a “double standard” distance triathlon involving 3km open water swim/80km bike/20km cross-country run.

Crawley Late Summer Triathlon

BTF-sanctioned event uses the Crawley K2 Olympic standard swimming pool and incorporates a fast bike and tough cross-country run.

Anglian Water Standard Olympic Triathlon

A 2014 European qualifying event, this race involves a dip in the Grafham Water Reservoir followed by a fast but undulating one-lap bike course, finishing with an out-and-back run around the reservoir and surrounding villages.

Midlands

Esendex Last Minute Triathlon

Held on the same course as the Southwell Sprint Triathlon, this event also attracts many first timers due to its end-of-season social feel.

North England

Teesdale Triathlon

Darlington Triathlon Club will be hosting a short distance race involving a 400m pool swim followed by an 18-mile cycle ride on open roads, ending with a 5k run across fields and farm tracks.

South Manchester Triathlon

Ideal for novices and sprint distance enthusiasts, this year’s event will be held in its usual setting of Wilmslow Leisure Centre for the last time before moving to its new home in Hale Barns next year.

Brownlee Tri

Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire / 21 September / www.brownleetri.com

The Brownlee brothers’ first foray into events, this is a new open water super-sprint triathlon held in the beautiful World Heritage Site of Fountains Abbey.

With Alistair currently nursing an ankle injury, he has picked two triathletes to team up with him and take on younger brother Jonathan in the Brownlee Challenge.

Scotland

Tri Together Glasgow
