More bonus money for this year’s World Triathlon Series
ITU increases bonus pool to reflect new requirement for athletes to race in five WTS races in order to win series
The International Triathlon Union has confirmed that the prize purse for this year’s WTS circuit will be $2.2m, including a bigger $755k bonus pool to reflect the fact that aspiring world champions must now compete in five WTS races rather than four.
The Grand Final in Edmonton, Canada will offer a $280,000 pot to the winners, while the ITU world champs will each take home an extra $5,000 from previous years, with the winning athletes awarded $40,000 in the men’s and women’s races. Full details on the prize structure can be found here.
This year’s WTS tour starts in Auckland, New Zealand on 5th-6th April, and for the first time will span eight cities in all five continents, with new races confirmed for Cape Town and Chicago, before finishing in Edmonton on 26th August to 1st September.
