David McNamee

David McNamee has been selected to represent Scotland at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, taking place in Glasgow next summer.

McNamee, 25, is one of nine athletes announced by Team Scotland earlier today, with the remaining eight all entered in the shooting events.

The triathlete delivered his best-ever results this season, finishing inside the top ten at three different ITU World Championship races in 2013 (San Diego, Yokohama and Stockholm).

McNamee said: “My last four years have been focused on reaching the Commonwealth Games and now to finally be selected is so exciting.

“I have never represented Scotland before which will be special and the fact it’s in Scotland makes it ten times more important.”

The first tri-related event at next year’s Games will be the individual finals on 24 July, while the new mixed team relay will take place on 26 July.
