Denmark’s Pedersen critically injured in training

Accident thought to have occurred while avoiding group of children

Camilla Pedersen, one of Denmark’s best-known triathletes, has suffered serious head injuries after an accident on a training ride, according to the Danish Triathlon Federation.

30-year-old Pedersen, who won the Ironman European Champion title at Frankfurt earlier this year, is described as currently being in a “critical but stable” condition in the intensive care unit at Odense University Hospital after a training ride in her hometown of Esbjerg.

The Danish Triathlon Federation reports that Pedersen took evasive manoeuvres after encountering a group of children who tried to cross the road in front of her training group; no other riders are believed to be injured.
