Club la Santa brings South African race camp to Europe

Sports resort Club La Santa in Lanzarote is offering bikers the chance to get their 2011 cycling off to a flying start with the first official European training camp for the South African mountain bike race, the Absa Cape Epic

Sports resort Club La Santa in Lanzarote is offering both amateur and professional bikers the chance to get their 2011 cycling off to a flying start with the first official European training camp for the South African mountain bike race, the Absa Cape Epic.

The camp, which takes place on 27th January to 3rd February 2011, is open to both Absa Cape Epic future participants and all experienced mountain bike riders who are up to the challenge.

Bikers will be lead by four times Absa Cape Epic finisher Laurent Sillon and taken on a number of routes, which will vary in length and difficulty. From the far south of the island, through the fascinating Fire Mountains to the north of the island taking in the breathtaking view over the nearby island La Graciosa.

Lanzarote’s location just 100 miles northwest of Morocco’s coastline means the terrain is very similar to that of the Cape Epic route. The dramatic landscape of the island and the wind will be a big challenge along with the gravel and sandy roads, single tracks, jeep tracks and rocky descends.

Head of Club La Santa Claire Dyson said: “This is a once in a life time opportunity for a number of bikers who don’t normally get the chance to compete in high profile races such as this. The routes chosen for this camp have been carefully selected to ensure everyone experiences an element of South Africa while also enjoying the sunshine and facilities at Club La Santa.”

Each ride will take between three and six hours depending on the level of experience. There will also be the option of taking part in the Club La Santa 2 stage Mountain Bike race on 29th and 30th January 2011.

The programme also contains a number of other activities including lectures on stage race nutrition and the 25 different sporting facilities at Club La Santa.

The cost of the ‘Absa Cape Epic Training Camp’ is €125 including all activities on the programme, sandwiches, refreshments on long rides, service car, event t-shirt, dinner and free entry to the Club La Santa Mountain Bike Race. The camp is restricted to guests staying at Club La Santa during the event.

Club La Santa is the Number One sports and active holiday resort in the world and is used by many famous sports clubs and teams from around the world, including HTC Columbia, the cycling team of Mark Cavendish.
