Ashleigh Gentle comprehensively won the French Riviera T100 Triathlon by nearly a minute while Hayden Wilde was first to finish a closer men’s race.

Behind Gentle, Paula Findlay came second in her highest T100 finish and India Lee’s third place was her best result this season.

Jelle Geens finished just 22 seconds later than Wilde in 3:12:45 and T100 debutant Sam Dickinson completed the podium in 3:14:07.

After the 2km swim in the glittering Riviera water, Jess Learmonth led fellow breakaway companion Georgia Taylor-Brown by 25 seconds with Alanis Siffert a further 53 seconds back.

Learmonth then rode half of the 80km bike leg solo before Taylor-Brown joined to collaborate. A chasing pack including Siffert, Lucy Byram and India Lee trailed by a minute while Gentle and Findlay were trying to close a larger gap.

Siffert then accelerated past the leading duo on the 10km climb and increased her gap on the technical descent to a minute. Learmonth and Taylor-Brown still had a 45-second advantage over the third group and about a minute over Gentle.

By T2 Siffert had a two-minute lead on Taylor-Brown. She transitioned quicker than Learmonth, who later pulled out of the race.

But on her way to clocking the fastest run time of the day (1:04:41), Gentle made up seven places to finish first overall.

Findlay also made up a stack of time as Taylor-Brown faded into 9th and Lee’s strong run earned her third.

Gentle secured 35 points for the win, propelling her into fourth place in the T100 standings, Findlay won 29 points for second and is now ninth overall, and Lee took home 26 points. Byram was rewarded for her consistency, with her fourth spot placing her sixth in the rankings.

Morgan Pearson was the first to leave the water, closely followed by Sam Dickinson and Kyle Smith with a larger favourites’ group further back.

At the base of the decisive 10km bike leg climb, Hayden Wilde, Rico Bogen, Mathis Margirier, Dickson and Jelle Geens constituted the lead group.

Wilde and Bogen then gapped the others as the New Zealander recorded the fastest bike split of the day in 1:47:17.

He increased his lead on the run, but Geens began to push him hard as the Belgian moved into second past Bogen. Dickinson also passed the German and remained in third until the end.

Wilde’s first place was his third T100 win from three this year and lifted him three places in the rankings to second. Geens remains top and Dickinson netted 26 points for third.

Despite dropping to fifth on the day, Bogen maintains his third place in the season standings.
