Hoka OneOne Mafate WP

The Mafate are built like any other run shoe, with one main difference – an incredibly thick and soft midsole. The idea is to give a ‘full suspension’ experience to trail running by creating a highly-cushioned, rolling feel to assist fast downhills.

The first wear of these is certainly an experience. You feel disconnected with little feel for the trail and will need to adjust your stride for the foam wedge. But they do allow you to just ‘bounce’ on without having to worry about what’s underfoot. The stability was better than expected due to the very wide base, but not great for twisty quick trails.

On a fast straight downhill is where they really excel and are a great laugh. Comfort could be improved with the upper and we feel the styling has a lot to live up to. If long distance running and wide trails is the name of your game the Mafate will give you something new and fun to play with.
