Avia Avi-Bolt

This light (259g), responsive shoe is speedy and track-spike like, and will be best suited for sprint triathlons or short, sharp workouts. The track-spike feel makes the Avi-Bolt minimalistic (although there are lighter shoes) and, as a result, you’ll get a real feel for the road.

Our test team was impressed with the snug fit and the way the shoe encouraged you to get up onto your toes, thanks to what Avia describe as the “cantilever” design. Equally, there’s arguably a lack of support – great if you’re a light, pacey runner; more problematic if you’re heavy-footed.

The fit is certainly tight, enveloping your foot in a light upper. Again, if you’ve wider feet, you may not enjoy such a snug hold. We experienced rubbing from the tongue, as well as under one arch, but that had cleared up by the second run, suggesting just an initial glitch rather than anything worryingly permanent.
