TRP R960

Okay, the price is mad, but for a piece of bike-pimping exotica these brakes take some beating. However, good looks and being the world’s lightest equivalent brake at 150 grammes each isn’t the whole story. These stoppers also do the business on the bike.

On the R960s, function hasn’t been sacrificed for form. You get all the dual-pivot power of top-end Campag or Shimano with a progressive, smooth delivery – no snatch and no squeal – and the pads look like they would last the distance well.

The brakes are well constructed from CNC 6061 aluminium, with any unnecessary metal shaved away, but without any loss of rigidity. A titanium hardware finish should guarantee long life, although the plastic quick-release mechanism lets the look down a bit and will slightly hinder airflow.

The brakes are easy to fit and to adjust, with a comprehensive set of instructions that are well worth keeping. They come in two colours: stealth fighter black or bling red.
